CYBERBULLYING
Stop Cyberbullying!
Bullying is manifested by the following acts: insulting the victim; intrigues; physical attacks; defamation; threats; blackmail; orders; demoralization in public; social isolation; and depreciation for appearance, race, religion, social status, sexual orientation, among other differences.
- The feeling of being teased or harassed by others can prevent people from speaking out or trying to deal with the problem. In extreme cases, cyberbullying can lead people to suicide.
- Cyberbullying can affect us in many ways. But these can be overcome and people can regain their confidence and their health.
Anyone can be a victim of cyberbullying. If you see this happening to someone you know, try to offer help.
It is important that you listen to your friend. Why doesn't he want to report the cyberbullying? How is he feeling? Let him know that he doesn't have to report anything formally, but it is essential that he talks to someone who can help him.
Remember, your friend may be fragile. Be gentle with him. Help him think about what he really wants to say and to whom. Offer to accompany him if he decides to blow the whistle. Most importantly, remind him that you are together and you want to help him.
Also, the first line of defense against cyberbullying may be you. Think about where cyberbullying happens in your community and the ways you can help-whether by raising your voice, challenging bullies, talking to a trusted adult, or creating awareness about the problem. Even the smallest act of kindness can have a big impact.
